Digital Capture

We utilize a digital capture system with the Better Light Super 8K-HS 12000 x 15990 pixels - Enhanced Resolution 549 MB max. file 24-bit RGB (1.1 GB in 48-bit RGB). For you fellow Geeks out there here's where it gets fun, the equipment is completely different from the single-shot digital capture cameras using area array sensors, instead it gathers the information for the image in one continuous scan as the light is collected by three, individually filtered rows of pixels – this is called a tri-linear CCD. Since it moves across the "film plane" capturing light one row of pixels at a time, it takes awhile (sometimes 20 minutes) to capture a large original. No other camera is gathering such a ginormous population of pixels (equal to a 384 megapixel camera) over such a large area — it's about 5X the physical area of most array sensors! And, all of the pixels are true RGB color, not interpolated color.
It is hands down the best system available to accurately capture fine art. A really good question that gets asked all the time is if it's so good, why is it FREE? That's because it's actually easier for us to start from your original than to try to match a digitally supplied file to a supplied digital print. And the results are just beyond comparison.
File format for supplied files
Please send a file that is at least 150DPI at the final print size desired. Avoid taking a lower resolution file and "resizing it" in Photoshop it usually causes pixilation. PSD, TIF are best, JGP are ok and we'll take GIF and BMPs in a pinch. Send your file on a PC formatted CD, DVD or flash drive. Please send us a print that you like of a subsection of your image so we can match your expectation as best we can.
Giclee Printing
Some Giclee printers sware by Epson others think Canon's produce a better quality print. We think they are both right. The Canons and Epsons have slightly different printing characteristics and color gamut. We have both, and will match your Giclee to the print system that will do the best for your image.
The Canon iPF9100 printer's ink set is comprised of 12 colors: four standard process colors with Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta; plus Red, Green, Blue, Matte Black, Gray, and Photo Gray. This unique combination creates a broad color pallet and delivers exceptional print results. The iPF9100 printer's LUCIA ink is specially formulated to reduce graininess and bronzing and resist scratching and fading. Black, Matte Black, Gray and Photo Gray have been reformulated to optimize black ink density for exceptional monochrome photo-quality output. Based on the type of media being used, the iPF9100 printer automatically chooses the correct black ink to achieve the best print results.
The Epson 11880 printer utilizes the UltraChrome K3 Ink set with new Vivid Magenta pigments, this latest generation of ink technology requires only eight colors, including a three-level Black technology, to significantly raise the level of quality for professional color and black-and-white prints.
Image size vs. media sizes
Let's get on the same page with some terminology. When we refer to image size, we're referring to the actual size of the image itself not the size of the paper or canvas if it's rolled. We add 2" to all four sides to giclee on paper and 4" to all sides on canvas.
Gallery Wrapping and Stretching
Canvas gallery wrapping is our specialty. We cut, join and brace all of our own stretcher bars similar to how custom frames are built. Then stretch the canvas with very neat corners and staple the canvas on the back so they don't show.
Shipping and Insurance
We try to keep shipping simple. Shipping is $39.95 per original. That includes shipping the original back to you along with all of the associated edition giclees. It includes $1000 of insurance, if you would like to insure your original for more than $1000 we ask you to pay $0.75 per $100 in additional insurance.
